Grade Level: Kindergarten, First, Second
Equipment: Scooters
Course of Study Objectives:
K 11. Demonstrate willingness to play with a diverse range of students using sharing skills with equipment and working cooperatively with peers.
Specific Objectives:
Cognitive- By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to verbally list the different techniques riding a scooter.
Affective- By the end of this lesson, the students will feel comfortable enough in his or her abilities to ride a scooter.
Psychomotor- By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to perform the proper techniques of riding a scooter.
Introductory: Students will be placed into their lines in order with their class.
Fitness Development: Students will complete the list of stretches and exercises below-
1.) 10 toe touches
2.) ABC’s
3.) 10 Snap Backs
4.) 10 arm circles forward
5.) 10 arm circles backward
6.) 10 Overheads
7.) 10 Jumping Jacks
Lesson Focus: Students will remain in their lines and will listen to examples or explanation of what the lesson will be on. Students will be shown how to ride the scooter safely.
Activity 1: Students will ride down to the end of the line forwards (hands by their sides bottoms on the scooter) and come back to the beginning of their line forwards. Other students that are waiting will complete a designated exercise.
Activity 2: Students will ride down to the end of the line backwards (hands by their sides bottoms on the scooter) and come back to the beginning of their line forwards. Other students that are waiting will complete a designated exercise.
Activity 3: Students will ride down to the end of the line forwards (hands by their sides bottoms on the scooter) with a partner pushing them. The partners will switch when they get down to the end of the first line (so both students will get a chance to push). They will then come back to the beginning of their line and switch with the next pair of students. The other students that are waiting will complete a designated exercise.
Activity 4: Students will choose which way they would like to ride the scooter (free choice scooter ride). Other students that are waiting will complete a designated exercise.
Closure: Students will be reminded about what was worked on during Physical Education class that day. This is the time to really reinforce what was covered and how it can/will affect them in their lives.
