CES PE 11-16/11-17

Lesson Topic: Cardio Fitness


Lesson Time: 40 minutes

Number of Students: Thirty

Grade Level: Kindergarten, First, Second

Equipment: Jump ropes

Course of Study Objectives:

K 13. Describe benefits of regular participation in physical activities.

Example: developing a healthier body

Specific Objectives:

Cognitive- By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to verbally list the importance of cardio fitness.

Affective- By the end of this lesson, the students will feel comfortable enough in his or her abilities to complete various cardio fitness activities.

Psychomotor- By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to perform the proper cardio fitness activities.

Introductory: Students will be placed into their lines in order with their class.

Fitness Development: Students will complete the list of stretches and exercises below-

1.) 10 toe touches

2.) ABC’s

3.) 10 Snap Backs

4.) 10 arm circles forward

5.) 10 arm circles backward

6.) 10 Overheads

7.) 10 Jumping Jacks

Lesson Focus:

Activity 1: Students will be shown the proper way to jump the rope forwards. Then each student will take five jumps then go to the end of their line. The next student will rotate to his or her turn. This will continue on until the music stops.

Activity 2: Students will be shown how to jump rope with a double hop forwards. Then each student will take five jumps then go to the end of their line. The next student will rotate to his or her turn. This will continue on until the music stops.

Activity 3: Students will be shown how to do a backwards jump with the jump rope. Then each student will take five jumps then go to the end of their line. The next student will rotate to his or her turn. This will continue on until the music stops.

Activity 4: Students will be shown how to do a backwards double hop with the jump rope. Then each student will take five jumps then go to the end of their line. The next student will rotate to his or her turn. This will continue on until the music stops.

Activity 5: Students will be allowed to chose their favorite jump rope skill from that days lesson to complete. Then each student will take five jumps then go to the end of their line. The next student will rotate to his or her turn. This will continue on until the music stops.

Closure: Students will be reminded about what was worked on during Physical Education class that day. This is the time to really reinforce what was covered and how it can/will affect them in their lives.
